Gold Lady and Grapefruit

I never would have bought the Imperial Leather Sweet Vanilla and Cherry Blossom Foamburst Body Wash as I thought (weirdly) the look of it was way too masculine and I couldn’t work out who it was aimed at. I mean what’s with all the spooky black background? Seriously odd. It was only because I came across a blogger who was raving about it and said how much both she and her husband loved it that I decided to give this one a go. This luxurious body wash transforms from a smooth gel into an abundance of rich, creamy lather that glides across your skin like silk. Benefits: Immerse yourself in a delicious heavenly fragrance with this sumptuous vanilla and cherry blossom body wash. Leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth after just one wash. Our expertly crafted blend delivers a unique fragrance burst and a lather so rich and silky it can also be used for shaving. I’m glad I bought it, because I must say I absolutely LOVE it. The smell is glorious – like immersing yourself in the best ever cherry pie and it somehow feels very Christmassy too. As with all Imperial Leather products, the foam is fabulous and you only need one small squirt for your whole body – bliss! I will definitely be picking this one up again very soon. You can find it at Superdrug for £3.15 for 200ml, but they’re doing a 2 for £5 offer at the moment.

I must admit that when I bought it online, I thought the Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Butter was going to be a much larger tub so when it arrived it was fairly disappointing. I’m no good with measurements, as you can tell! This rich and creamy Body Butter is a feast for the skin. It melts straight in to leave skin feeling soft and smooth. It contains Community Trade cocoa butter and has a zingy grapefruit scent.

  • Body moisturiser
  • Lightly moisturises (24hr hydration)
  • Nourishes skin
  • For normal to dry skin
  • Skin is left feeling softer, and suppler
  • Easily absorbed
  • Refreshing, zesty scent

However, I enjoyed the product a lot more than I thought I would – the smell is great and not too harsh, and it rubs in very easily. The only issues are the size and the price – it’s £6 for 50ml, so you don’t get much bang for your buck. A shame really …

The Olay Regenerist 3 Point Day Cream was sent as a sample, and left me fairly cold actually. Olay Regenerist 3 Point day Cream with SPF30 provides fast anti-ageing results on face, neck and décolletage. From the first use, its lightweight, non-greasy texture leaves skin brighter, hydrated and protected from the ageing effects of sun damage. After 5 days skin feels firmer. Firms and helps protect from damaging UV rays SPF 30 protection in a lightweight prestigious feel. Hydrates skin and regenerates for a youthful look. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Exfoliates, smoothens and brightens. The trouble is that it’s just so lightweight that I didn’t feel it was doing me any good at all – like putting absolutely nothing on my face. I do at least like to feel it’s making some kind of difference, LOL! However, if you like things being that invisible, maybe this is the one for you? You can get it at Boots for £19.99 for 50ml, but they are having a one-third discount on Olay products at the moment.

The Tesco Lens Wipes are my go-to product for cleaning my glasses and sunglasses. For spectacles, cameras and optical devices: quick drying, smear free and individually wrapped. I only actually clean them once a week but I really should do them more – I’m just too lazy! I would say these ones do leave some smears but they vanish very quickly so there’s no need to scrub at them. They cost £1.25 for 26 wipes, so not too bad at all.

I tried the Mario Badescu Facial Spray, as so many beauty bloggers were recommending it. A refreshing & hydrating facial mist. Features a gentle & non-irritating formula. Contains fragrant Herbal Extracts & Rosewater to provide a boost of moisture. Instantly soothes tight, dehydrated skin. Leaves skin refreshed & comfortable. Perfect for all skin types. Can also be used on dry hair. To use: mist on face, neck & hair as needed. Also great for setting makeup. This one is fine and the rose smell is nice, but I wouldn’t say I was wowed by it at all. I think there are better and cheaper rosewater sprays on the market. You can buy this one at Amazon for £10.66 for 120ml.

The Milton Lloyd Gold Lady Parfum de Toilette is one of my reliable day-time/work scents and I already have a spare to use now I’ve finished one. The notes are:

  • Citrus, Fruity
  • Jasmin Lily Rose
  • Caramel – Musk
  • Oriental-Fruity

For me, it’s pleasantly floral with a slight spicy kick that I love. You can get it at Amazon for £2.95 for 50ml, so a real and worthwhile bargain!

I’ve got loads of the Montagne Jeunesse Aloe Vera Blemish Mud Masks and they’re fairly good at clearing up the skin. The attributes are:

  • Special mud blend of Aloe Vera, Willow, Rosemary and WitchHazel
  • For Clear, Clean & Refreshed skin

The trouble is that the smell is starting to annoy me a bit so I have tended recently to approach it with a slight groan. It does the job fairly well, but I’m opting for one of my other blemish masks when the need arises these days. I’m hoping this is just a blip as I do have lots left, LOL! You can buy it at Amazon for £1.98 per 20ml mask, and this will last you at least two sessions.

Finally, I’ve been using the Nyx Dark Circle Concealer in the Fair shade for a while now. A serious solution for one of beauty’s most challenging problems! No fancy names – just a product that can be counted on to do the job. The product glides on without looking thick or obvious. Coconut oil provides intensive moisture and ensures no caking. The subtle hint of orange counteracts the appearance of dark circles while natural skin-toned pigments work in unison to provide the ultimate coverage. It blends in well – but I don’t think it does the job as well as other products to be honest – though my eyes do need a lot of help! I was also annoyed by the way it caked up in the pot as I was coming to the end of it, which was very irritating. I kept putting caked pieces of the concealer onto my face and having to wipe it off and start again, grrr! So, while it’s been an interesting experience, I won’t be bothering again. You can buy it at Boots for £6.50 for a 2.9g pot, and it lasts a good while.

Happy Sunday!

Dove Delight and Nyx Fail

Lots more products I’ve completed this week, so it’s a bit of a bumper week for me.

Products I Like

8-oct-2016-no-1

The Imperial Leather Marshmallow Shower Cream is absolutely amazing and smells like heaven. It’s one of my total favourite things for bath – and shower! – time. I always have a bottle of this in the bathroom – you can pick it up at Boots for only £1 and it’s often on offer there or in other stores. I particularly love the long-lasting lather so you don’t need to re-soap up much.

I use Dove Firming Nourishing Lotion on my thighs at night, and I think it keeps my ageing skin under some kind of control, LOL. I’d probably buy another but I’ve got a different thigh cream to try out next, so I’m going to leave it for a bit. You can get this at Amazon for £5.75.

Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel (with marula oil) is a totally wonderful facial cleanser and feels so soft on my skin. I really love it. I have another bottle in reserve as this is a must for my cleansing routine. Marula gel is very good for the skin and I’ve been buying more of this recently. Interestingly, I went off all Clarins products for ages as I used to have regular facials with their therapists in my local town, but two or three years ago, they kept cancelling my appointments for no real reason, and then left me waiting for over half an hour on two occasions before saying they couldn’t make my scheduled appointments – so the customer service was terrible. I was really angry and upset and never went back. These days, I’m using some of their products again, but I’m steering clear of having any Clarins facial treatments for sure. Anyway, this product is brilliant for sensitive skin like mine. It’s £21 for 125ml. A bit on the expensive side but so worth it.

Rimmel BB Cream 9-in-1 Skin Perfecting Super Makeup (Very Light)  is one of my go-to products and I use it every day when I get home from work and touch up my make up for the evening. You can never get it at Boots Online as it’s ALWAYS out of stock for some reason so I buy it at Amazon – it’s £5.49 for 30ml. I use Very Light as my skin is so pale it’s almost vampiric (typical redhead, eh!) but there are other tones too. It’s a staple in my bathroom cabinet.

Nip&Fab Viper Venom Eye Fix is quite good and I do like it, but I’m not so keen on the roller mechanism, which I don’t think is so good for the skin around the eyes. That said, I’ve learnt recently that I’ve been putting my eye creams/gels on wrongly all these years by dabbing it onto the skin directly under my eye. Apparently – and I’ve been doing this for about a week and it really makes a positive difference to how I look!! – you should be dabbing or rolling on the eye products on the ridge of the eye socket so from the outer corner of the eye in a curve down to the middle of the nose. Who knew! Anyway, my eyes look much better since I’ve been doing that, so I will definitely be using this product again as the roller doesn’t do damage on the socket. It’s £7.47 for 15ml.

Montagne Jeunesse Creamy Coconut face mask is just flipping wonderful and I love the smell. I get two masks out of the 15ml pack and they only cost £1 so what’s not to like? It makes the skin really soft and is brilliantly moisturising.

Salcura Bioskin Zeoderm Cream (No 2) came as a free sample and is really very soothing. It’s a light green colour which is surprising but not unpleasant, and certainly feels moisturising once it sinks in (it takes a while). It’s very good for eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions, but though I did like it, at £24.99 for 250ml, I’ll probably give it a miss. I’ll enjoy using up the other sample though!

The Eve Lom Kiss Mix is the most expensive product in this section, size for size, but I LOVE it, and I have 2 more in my cupboard, so that’s a relief! I love the slightly minty flavour and the way it makes my lips shine – I’m a definite gloss girl – bah to the matte lip look, eh. So this is definitely for me. It’s £16 for 7ml at SpaceNK but when I remember that it’s taken me 8 MONTHS to finish up, then maybe it’s the best bargain I’ve found after all! A little goes a long way – get some now!

Products I Dislike

8-oct-2016-no-2

I’ve talked about the Dr Schrammek Sensiderm SOS Balm before – it’s pretty decent as a facial moisturiser but because the woman who gave me the product sample was so nasty, this one is a no-no for me! Even more so when I look at the £79.99 price tag, yikes!

I picked up a sample of Estee Lauder Double Wear Make Up in Cool Almond in our local House of Fraser – and I have to say that the make up man who dealt with my queries and issues (Stephan) was absolutely incredibly lovely, and very kind indeed. Thank you to Stephan! – I sent a thank you email to the House of Fraser main office and they said they would send it on and so I hope they do. He was great. I’m just sorry that the Cool Almond shade was too dark for me, though I have liked the feel of the foundation itself – it stays on (a miracle for me!) and doesn’t cake as much as other stuff. So I’ve purchased a full-size bottle of the Ivory Nude shade (1N1) from eBay – much cheaper! – and I think it’s very good. Especially when mixed with my CC cream which gives it a bit more moisture. This costs £31 for 30ml from Boots.

Nyx Blotting Paper – Fresh Face and Tea Tree versions – was an impulse buy and a bit of a waste of money though neither were that expensive (£11.60 each for 100 sheets). I think I was just carried away by the whole Nyx thing, and forgot how much I hate blotting paper and how little it does for me – as well as making me look streaky, sigh. I shall have to put them in a drawer, forget about them and they will slowly make their way to the bin!…

Have a wonderful beauty week, everyone!

Frog Prince Lipstick Queen

Frog Prince Lipstick Queen

This unusual lipstick was one of my Christmas presents from my lovely husband who bought it from Space NK for me – what a superhero! It’s actually quite fun – it’s supposed to turn to the perfect shade of pink for your skin tone on application so you’re ready to go without any fuss. Being a woman who hates fuss with a vengeance, this sounded perfect for me. It certainly turns pink when you put it on, but I would say that on me it’s darker than I expected as when I use lipstick I tend to go for paler colours as I’m very fair-skinned.

However, once I’d got used to it, I actually do quite like it – though I would tend to wear it in the evenings and not in the daytime. Still it’s a fun concept – and a definite choice for a special gift as Space NK is never cheap, though the quality is good!
