Mists, Masks and Matis

Products I Love

products-i-love-30-dec-2016

Hope everyone has had a happy Christmas! I’ve had a great time, partly because I’ve LOVED a lot of products I’ve used up this week, hurrah!

The Innisfree Bija Sheet Mask is lovely, and I’ve used it before. It’s great for my acne-prone skin, the mask stays on easily and it’s incredibly softening and refreshing. You can get 1 for £1.00 at the Innisfree site but I buy mine at Ebay and have already restocked. I’m not even a fan of face masks, LOL, but this one is an exception.

Keeping with the acne solution theme, SebaMed Clear Face Gel is just marvellous – though I use it as a spot gel rather than as a gel for the whole face. On the other hand, I might try using it as it’s supposed to be used for once and see how it goes – it’s not at all drying but it does the job I want it to very well. Again, I have already restocked this from Amazon where you can buy 50ml for £5.55. A bargain and one I definitely recommend.

The Neutrogena Concentrated Unscented hand cream is a MUST, at all times of the year for me, but absolutely vital in these cold winter months. I always use it in the mornings as it’s just so good. You can get this for £2.77 for 50ml from Boots at the moment as they’re having a special 25% Neutrogena discount – so well worth popping this in your trolley.

The Roger & Gallet Fig Extract Hand Cream is a new one on me and I have loved it. Roger & Gallet is my new (to me) Rising Star beauty company! The smell is subtle –  fig isn’t my favourite scent – but the quality of the cream is brilliant. I will be buying more of this, but think I will try a different scent just to see what it’s like. This one is £6 for 30ml from FeelUnique and I admit I will buy this hand cream again even though I rejected the Body Shop 30ml hand creams which are only £4 – yes, I am a hypocrite!! – but R&G is just so much better. You get what you pay for, LOL.

I have liked using The Body Shop Smoothing Eye Cream and it has been quite effective, but for £16(!!!) for a mere 15ml, I’m afraid I won’t be restocking. I think I must have got this in a half-price offer or something, as I certainly wouldn’t have considered it otherwise. Still, if you have spare cash, then you might like to try this – or even better send me the spare cash and I can spend it wisely for you!…

The Vichy Normaderm Anti-Blemish Care came as one of my monthly free FeelUnique samples and I do like it, though I don’t necessarily love it. I did a tidy up of all my beauty products this week (yay, me!) and found a full size product  ready to be used, so no need to think about buying any more. You can find it at Superdrug for £10.85 for 50ml – which is about £3 cheaper than at Boots. Good old Superdrug!

Due to the Christmas excesses (any alcohol- or chocolate-free days, anyone? Um, no, me neither …!!), I have treated myself to the 7th Heaven Nut Oil Mask which is fabulous. A great smell, and it contains marula oil (I really rate this for calming things down), and it clarifies and softens my skin – yes, I will be restocking this one, though I have loads of 7th Heaven masks in my cabinet which are now in one place (see note re the Beauty Tidy above …) waiting to be enjoyed. At the moment it’s not available at Amazon, but you can pick these up really cheaply at supermarkets and at Ebay for only about £1.00 per mask. I get 2 uses out of each.

I have LOVED the Avene Thermal Spring Water spray for absolutely ages, even though I don’t think it’s very popular now, but it still does the trick for me in terms of soothing my skin quickly. I’ve not restocked this yet, however, as I have a couple of new facial sprays to play with, but I’m sure it’s a product I’ll come back to in the end. You can buy this at Boots for £10 for 300ml, which I think is pretty good for a branded product.

I think this is my last Guinot sample and this time it’s their Dry Skin Face Cream – it’s been quite nice to use and I do like the delicate scent, but at £24.95 for 50ml at the AllBeauty site, I think I’ll be giving it a miss. I’ll probably pick up another sample at some point though (wicked me!)…

Finally, Matis is a new brand for me, and I have really enjoyed their Hyaluronic Performance Cream as it goes on so beautifully and seems to make my skin feel so much better. But – alas and alack!! – it’s a whopping £55.14 for 50ml at Amazon and I don’t think my bank balance can take it! I can still recommend it though – and if you get it, I shall have to sneak round and steal a swipe or two when you’re not looking …

Products I Don’t Like

products-i-hate-30-dec-2016

I picked up the DD Anti-Ageing Cream from Superdrug a while back and all I can say is that it’s okay, but not as good as my usual CC creams which I mix with my foundation. I think it’s just too watery and doesn’t smooth over imperfections very well. However, it claims to do marvellous things, so perhaps someone else will have better success with it. At a mere £4.95 for 50ml with the current Superdrug half-price offer, it’s worth a go.

Now, here’s a list of La Roche-Posay fails, sad to say – as I have other products from them that I totally LOVE, but these aren’t they. The Toleriane Ultra Eye Contour Gel only came in a 2ml sample which isn’t enough for a pinhead really – but I didn’t rate it much, I’m sorry to report. You can find it at Boots for £14.90 for 20ml. Hmm, not sure it will be worth it …

In similar fashion, the Toleriane Ultra Intense Soothing Care was a ridiculously small sample and didn’t leave any great impression on me. Actually, I can’t remember a thing about it, to be honest, but as it was only 2ml, I might well have blinked and missed it. If you fancy giving it a go, you can find it at Escentual Beauty for £17.50 for 40ml – though if you wait until January, you can get one-third off ALL La Roche-Posay products, so don’t click too soon! A special mention for Escentual for actually telling us that before we buy – well done, folks!…

Finally, in this section, I was so looking forward to trying my sample of the Effaclar Duo+ as I’ve heard amazing things about it wherever I travel on the Interweb thingy. La R-P must have been feeling generous (not!) as this sample was actually a whole 3ml – well, perish me timbers, me hearties, as they say!! Whatever next? Maybe La R-P might ease the purse strings a tad and give us decent-sized samples we can properly test out? Don’t hold your breath … Anyway, this did nothing for me and indeed it vanished into my skin and did zilch – if you see what I mean. That saves me a bit of money then, hey ho. You can get this at Boots for £15.50 for 40ml, and everyone else but me loves it!

Happy New Year to you all, and I wish you a fabulous start to 2017!

Almond and Ginger Delight

Products I Love

12-november-nice

Lots of lovely products this week, hurrah! I’ve been a fan of the Miaroma Sweet Almond Oil for ages and always massage it onto my face night and day, whatever happens. It’s also TOTALLY BRILLIANT to put on spots, especially nasty spots, and stops the nastiness in no time. It’s my go-to product for both good and bad face days. You can buy this one at Holland & Barrett for only £7.69 for 200ml and at the moment it’s part of the (seemingly never-ending) penny sale, so you can’t go wrong!

My hands can get very sore and red raw very quickly – which is why I always wear fingerless gloves from September to about April – but Neutrogena Unscented Concentrated Hand Cream keeps the itchiness and pain at bay. Again I use this morning and night – it’s not the most interesting of products but it does exactly what I want it to and makes my winter hands look normal. NB The other Neutrogena hand creams definitely aren’t as good as this one, so don’t waste your money on them if you need a serious product … You can buy this one at Boots for £2.77 for 50ml, which is a 25% reduction offer they have now.

I usually use a variety of anti-dandruff shampoos on my hair, which are all brilliant, but recently I’ve been mixing it up with Simple Gentle Care Shampoo – which lathers up well and feels really nice every now and again. I’ve already bought more of this as back-up. It’s only £2.99 for 200ml at Boots so a real bargain.

Miaroma Ginger Oil is totally FABULOUS if you have sinusitis or catarrh problems – I use this in the bath and also in face and throat products I make up myself with the sweet almond oil base (see above). I would never be without this as it really clears the passages, and is also good for colds, as well as being supremely comforting. The smell is gorgeous (ignore that 1-star review at the link above – the reviewer must be crazy, LOL!) – it’s £6.49 for 10ml at Holland & Barrett, but again it’s in the penny sale (isn’t everything?…)!

I was sent a free sample of some Roger & Gallet products this week – and though they’re not a brand I ever think of, I’ve actually enjoyed these ones. They even came with instructions as to when to use each one, which I always find very helpful (hint to other sample senders!!) as I am a Beauty Klutz. The Extra-Fine Cleansing Mask was very soothing indeed and made my face clean without drying and also without it being scented too strongly which was nice. It’s £12.75 for 100ml at Escentual and I would actually seriously think about getting this one – it’s suitable for sensitive skin which is great.

The Beauty Vinegar is a toner (no, I don’t like the name either!) which again is very soothing and I think I will definitely buy this as I need a new toner as I’m getting bored with my other ones. It’s £12.75 for 200ml at Escentual, which I think is amazing for this type of product! It has a subtle floral scent which isn’t cloying at all.

Finally, the Legendary Cream is a night-time moisturiser and feels great and very comforting. I did love it, but at £27.50 for 50ml, again at Escentual, it’s a bit out of my price range – but maybe as a special treat, I would go for it, and after all Christmas is coming up, LOL!

Products I Won’t Repurchase

12-november-not-nice

The Soft & Gentle Lavender & Patchouli Anti-Perspirant has a lovely scent and doesn’t damage your clothing, which is wonderful, but I personally don’t think it’s a particularly lasting product and I couldn’t rely on it alone to keep me sweat-free. You can get it at Boots for £2.69 for 150ml if you want to give it a try.

The Freeman Beauty Pomegranate Revealing Peel-off Mask is astonishingly clear when I expected it to be red! I did like the way this one went on my face – it’s a gel and quite thick so easy to go on and easy to tell where it is. It also really does refine and purify the skin without causing rashes or dryness. My only issue with it is that I do find peel-off masks a TOTAL hassle and so I have reluctantly decided to give it a miss. It’s £1.24 for a sachet at the BeautySpin website but I got two uses out of it, which really brings down the price.

For some strange reason, I found a sachet of The Sanctuary Salt Scrub in my order from the Book People (yes – I know – what?!?) and used this in the bath during the week. I’m never sure about scrubs as I don’t like things that rub against my (already sensitive skin) and indeed this one was quite painful when I used it – ouch, ouch! That said it smelt lovely and my skin was very smooth indeed afterwards but for me it’s just not worth the pain, LOL. It’s £12.00 for 650g at Boots if you’re up to the challenge.

Have a great weekend, and stay beautiful!

Neutrogena Surprise and the Pointless Panda

Products I’ve Enjoyed This Week:

beauty-i-like-17-sept-2016

The Imperial Leather Blissful Escape Body Wash (with Jojoba milk and Jasmine) is fine – a very soothing smell and great for my sensitive skin. The only issue with it is that the bottle is so large (500ml) that I did get a bit bored at the end. Yes, I could easily mix and match but I’m trying to be good and finish things up so I can have more space on the bathroom windowsill! I’m a real hoarder when it comes to body washes. I don’t think I’ll rebuy this one though, as I’ve got loads of others!

The Eucerin DermoPurifyer Active Night Care is brilliant – I love this and have already restocked it. It’s oil free, great for spots and says it reduces blemishes in 3 weeks – which it does, so a great product all round.

I’ve been loving the A Passion for Natural Aloe Vera Gel (black bottle on the right) – it’s great as a body moisturiser and just so easy to get out, even to the last bit – and yes this is important to me as I’m always in a rush in the mornings, and can’t be bothered squeezing and struggling with products. I will probably get this one again but I currently have another aloe vera gel product on the go so am waiting to see how I feel about the two of them.

Finally in the Products I Like category is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturiser – I only had a sample as you can see, but it was fantastic – very comforting and moisturising which I need at my age! I shall be buying this one for sure – which is a surprise to me as I’ve only ever bothered with their hand cream before.

Products Which Have Disappointed Me This Week:

beauty-i-dislike-17-sept-2016

I have to say it’s been a bit of a tricky beauty week for me anyway – I paid a visit to the inaugural Wellbeing Day in our village last Sunday (also our wedding anniversary, which was lovely!) but came away mainly feeling very depressed. I think that lately my skin has been a lot better and one or two people at work have said how good I’m looking (thank you, both!) but at the Wellbeing Day, two separate stallholders mentioned how spotty I was and I felt hugely upset by that – and angry too, as surely it was supposed to be a Wellbeing Day, not a Make The Visitor Cry Day, and I think there are definitely better ways of approaching customers! Hey ho …

Anyway, starting with the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion sample, this was distinctly average and hasn’t inspired me to buy any more Aveeno products. Still, that said, it’s not as totally horrible as the Elizabeth Grant Collagen Body Cream in the middle – honestly, it smells DISGUSTING – like rubbing sewage on your skin (no, REALLY – and other people have said similar things in reviews!) – and no matter how bouncy the collagen might make me, it’s absolutely NOT worth it – so that’s going …

The Heyland & Whittle Wild Lemongrass hand cream on the right is something I started off quite liking but it quickly lost its appeal and I soon got bored with it. I also think it might make my skin feel a bit sore sometimes? I’ve had it for well over a year now and it’s not even halfway down the bottle so that’s going in the rubbish tonight!

In the front of the picture, the Dr Schrammek Derma Cosmetics Optimum Protection Cream sample is actually not too bad – and certainly better than the Golden Tan sample (not shown here) – but this was one given to me by one of the ‘spotty stallholders’ at the Wellbeing Day, and a woman has her pride! Until they sort out their customer service approach, Dr Schrammek can whistle for my cash, my dears …

Finally I come to the last two samples which came with a recent face mask order on the internet. The TonyMoly Pore Gel Cream (green sachet) left me baffled as there was so little in the sachet it was hard to tell anything definite about it at all. And the TonyMoly Panda’s Dream White Magic Cream sounds distinctly suspicious anyway and took AGES to rub in when I bravely tried it this morning. If I wake up tomorrow and look like a panda, I shall NOT be happy, LOL!

Anyway, I hope you’ve had a fun beauty week, and have a relaxing weekend!

Soap & Glory Hand Products

I picked up a set of Soap & Glory hand creams at Boots Online recently as I was trying to see if there was anything other than my usual Neutrogena hand cream (which does get a bit boring due to the lack of smell). I get very cold hands and they get quite red raw if I go outside in Winter (or Spring or Autumn) without gloves.

So I started using the Hand Food one first at night to see how I got on. It’s billed as having an ‘original pink fragrance’ which is interesting (does pink have a smell?) but the scent is very girly and slightly 1950s – though I suspect it will probably appeal more to the teenage market it’s aimed for. The cream itself is quite good and non-greasy which is great. My hands have been fine in the morning when I get up, but I have to admit I may not purchase another tube unless it’s on special offer, mainly due to the smell.

Then, more recently, I’ve started using the Hand Dream one for the day, and really I prefer this one – the smell is far more adult, and it still has that same non-greasy but protective feel. It lasts throughout the day too and I didn’t have to reapply very much. As a change to Neutrogena, I would definitely buy this one again.
